It makes sense to look at what some long drive champions do to hit it longer. As pedantic as it sounds, Michael Sater did it by working out and losing a lot of weight. Hey, if you are serious about hitting it long, why shouldn’t that include getting into shape?
“With one mighty swing, the 22-year-old long driver from Camas, Wash., secured his first berth to the $450,000 RE/MAX World Championships during Saturday’s Region 9 finals at Amend Park in south Billings.
The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Sater slammed a drive of 362 yards to capture the winner’s bracket shootout in the open division by one yard over Brad McAnally of Festus, Mo. McAnally, 34, will also advance to the world finals in Mesquite, Nev., for the second straight year.
“About 2 1/2 months ago I weighed 317 pounds,” Sater said. “I started working out with a buddy and I’ve lost 47 pounds. I put on lots of muscle and club-head speed and got prepared for this. I didn’t think I’d be here in the beginning.”
Oakland Beach Golf Club will be the site of the annual RE/MAX World Long Drive Eastern Regional competition on Saturday and Sunday.
“This is an extreme sport,” said Dick Rodgers, the Northeast Region Director. “We want the fans to be yelling with every drive. This isn’t you normal golf event. We want people to be loud…very loud.”
Patrons will be able to watch the drivers tee it high and let it fly as grand stands will be set up behind the tee box when the competition begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Open Divisions competitors, which consists of participants of any age. The finals will begin around 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The rules are simple — hit it as far as you can down the middle of the grid, which is usually 50 yards wide. However, if a ball lands outside of the grid, the drive does not count. Read more here
If you’re interested in driving the ball further than ever before, you have to check out this new dvd by Bobby Eldridge and PurePoint Golf.
It’ the best I’ve ever seen on getting extra distance off the tee, and hitting fairways more consistently.
I’m not going to say too much more about it because their webpage will show you what I’m talking about. The driver is the most important club in your bag to have complete confidence in because it sets the tone for the complete hole.
